Summer Learning Day

Join us and the National Summer Learning Association for this nationwide advocacy celebration.

June 21, 2012

This day is an opportunity to showcase your summer program and help spread awareness and enthusiasm around summer learning!

Help us show policy makers, parents and the general public how summer programs prevent learning loss and hunger.

Programs can also plan to join in on Thursday, May 10, 2012 10-11:30 AM PST for the FREE Celebrate Summer Learning with National Summer Learning Day Tools and Resources Webinar to get new event ideas, talking points, and resources.

How to Participate

Why Participate in Summer Learning Day?

An analysis of survey data released in 2010 by the Afterschool Alliance confirms that parents strongly support summer learning programs and more would participate in programs were available.

The America After 3PM survey of 30,000 households found:
  • In Washington State, only 21% of school-age children participate in summer learning programs.
  • The parents of 49% of children in the state who are not already in a summer learning program would enroll their children in one, if a program were available to them – an indication of the considerable unmet demand for summer learning programs in the state.
  • 79% of Washington parents support public funding for summer learning programs.
