Trainer Apprentice Program (TAP)

Washington State is a big place with big demand for Afterschool and Youth Development training for diverse programs. At the same time, highly skilled workers in these programs are asking, “How do I become a trainer, coach, or consultant and teach others?”  The Trainer Apprentice Project (TAP) is designed to meet both these needs by using a one year long learning partner model – either pairing trainers with people who want to become trainers or pairing trainers in the same region so they can benefit from peer support.

Below are the pairs of people delivering professional learning activities in the Washington Regional Action Project (WRAP) regions of Washington. They have been working together since October 2010 and will continue through September 2011.

Congratulations to these 12 people, selected from 24 applicants across the state. They represent a remarkable range of adult education expertise areas related to working with children, youth, families, community organizations, schools. This second of two year’s project funding, from the U.S. Dept. of Education ends in September, but the bonds forged within the project and the professional growth impacts will continue.

Here are some quotes from last year’s project participants:
  • “My project partner and I are going to continue working together – we don’t want to stop.”
  • “I helped someone learn how to work effectively with young men of color.”
  • “I greatly expanded my network of professional colleagues.”
  • “I became a stronger facilitator.”
  • "I am more confident in my ability to train and coach adults.”
