Ask Afterschool Andy: Childhood Obesity Resources
by School's Out Washington | | Posted under
DEAR AFTERSCHOOL ANDY:
My students and I are so happy we came across your web page. Your page has offered us some great resources on health/nutrition/childhood obesity that we were able to browse through and use. Thanks!
Anyway, since we used some of your resources, my students thought it was only fair to share one they found: http://www.homefitnessequipment.org/childhood-obesity.html . (Check it out!) ((Also awarding them with a healthy food party for their efforts!!))
Do you think you could add their suggestion to your page? They would love to contribute!

Thanks for writing and for encouraging healthy habits with your students! I’m cautious to promote a gym equipment company’s website, but their page on childhood obesity is actually really good. Tell your students “thanks”!
Here are the resources from our website:
- Center for Childhood Obesity Prevention Coalitionis a coalition of organizations (including School’s Out Washington) working on improving our overall environment so our children live a healthy, active lifestyle. This spring the Coalition launched Soda Free Sundays – a community-wide challenge to take a break from soda and other sugary drinks for at least one day each week for six weeks. I wrote about CCOPC in my first post.
Let’s Move! is a comprehensive initiative, launched by the First Lady, dedicated to solving the problem of obesity within a generation, so that children born today will grow up healthier and able to pursue their dreams. Combining comprehensive strategies with common sense, Let’s Move! is about putting children on the path to a healthy future during their earliest months and years.Do you your students (or anyone else) have any suggestions on how we can better organize all of our resources? What organizations have their resources organized in an easy-to-use way?We have recently added some fantastic new resources on supporting students who are refugees. Check ’em out!Thank you for e-mailing! Send your questions or comments to firstname.lastname@example.org
