In the other Washington, the Senate voted to reauthorized S. 1086, the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG) Act of 2014 thanks to calls and emails from thousands across the country. CCDBG is the primary federal source of funding for families with child care needs and also funds child care quality initiatives. Approximately 600,000 children are provided with afterschool program care through CCDBG.
Important changes to CCDBG will support an increase in quality, greater stability of care, and more support for health and nutrition. The bill must now be reauthorized by the House. Take action here by writing your Congressman to ask for their support of CCDBG and the 21st CCLC Inititiave. Contact Janet Schmidt with any questions regarding this legislation.
