Common Core and Youth Development – YDEKC Policy Brief
by School's Out Washington | | Posted under
We’d like to share with you an exciting brief on the Common Core standards in Washington state developed by the Forum for Youth Investment and, our office-mates, the Youth Development Executives of King County (YDEKC). This will have implications for our future work with afterschool and youth development (AYD) programs. You will also see at the end that several of our current projects are highlighted.
Jessica Werner, Executive Director of YDKEC, writes:
I’m happy to share with you a new brief about AYD’s role with the Common Core State Standards – the new standards for Math and English Language Arts that Washington (and most other states) will be fully implementing in 2014 and beyond. We collaborated with the Forum for Youth Investment on the brief, customized for Washington State, based on the Featured Brief in the Forum’s newsletter which was published today. If you do not already subscribe to the Forum for Youth Investment Ready by 21 Team’s e-newsletter, I encourage you to, as it is rich with pertinent information.
As always, we welcome your feedback, and anticipate updating this brief a year or so from now, as we learn more about what Common Core implementation will mean for our field and the critical role we play in supporting youth success.
