Meet Ka'ohe Wong, Program Quality Associate Director!

by School's Out Washington | | Posted under School's Out News

Ka'ohe Wong recently joined our team at School's Out Washington after many years in different roles within the expanded learning field, most recently at the YMCA of Snohomish County.  In her new role at SOWA, Ka'ohe will lead and support efforts around our quality improvement work. Learn more about Ka'ohe and why she is excited to be a member of the SOWA team.

Where are you from?
I was born & raised in San Jose, California’s Japantown community - my soul is tied to the West Coast and the Pacific Ocean. I moved to Washington State in 2001, by route of Honolulu, HI, and by 2010 I was ready to call the Pacific Northwest my new home.

What do you do in your down time?
I love finding joy in small, everyday things and seek out ways to enhance these moments in my down time. Some of my favorite things include great conversations, exploring new neighborhoods, sampling new restaurants or food, hiking or being in nature, cooking, storytelling, and starting craft projects.

What brought you to SOWA?
The opportunity to combine my passions for youth development, systems management, and building equitable spaces in one location drew me to this work at School’s Out. I’m excited to integrate my prior experience of program delivery and supervision with systems management and support. I am also thrilled to be able to continue my role as an advocate for youth and youth development professionals.

Tell us one thing you are most proud of.
I have a great pirate joke that I’ve perfected over time. It’s a great one if you have 5 minutes and can tolerate my excitement while I tell it.
