SOWA’s Common Core Work
by School's Out Washington | | Posted under
Over the next several months, School’s Out Washington will be engaging communities across the state as part of a new initiative to raise awareness among parents, students and afterschool and youth development (AYD) providers around Common Core State Standards (CCSS). With funding from College Spark Washington, this effort will focus on supporting AYD programs in understanding CCSS and helping them understand how their programs can align to these new standards.
Through collaboration with community partners, education efforts will also include parents and school community members so that they can learn about the CCSS and how to continue to support their students.
To further strengthen school-community-family partnerships, SOWA will host a series of town hall style gatherings and community meetings to educate the public about the importance of understanding the CCSS and their implementation. In coordinating events across Washington State, SOWA will prioritize its outreach efforts to include communities in rural areas, of high poverty and communities of color. If you are interested in being a part of putting on an event in your community or would like more information about the grant, please contact Shannon Robinson, 206-336-6907. You can also learn more about the CCSS by visiting the Ready WA website at www.readywa.org.
