SOWA Supports Washington's Transgender Youth

We Welcome All Young People
School’s Out Washington remains committed to ensuring that all children and youth in our state feel welcome, safe, and have the opportunity to thrive, and that youth serving providers are prepared to offer support during this uncertain time.
Yesterday the federal administration rescinded its transgender student guidance policy and protections. Without this policy, transgender students, providers and their families are vulnerable. While Washington State’s non-discrimination practices remain intact, we recognize the pain and uncertainty this causes students and those who work with them while already contending with efforts in our own state to roll back protections. High-quality expanded learning opportunities offer spaces for all youth to flourish, and we are dedicated to continuing to address transphobia, racism, sexism, heterosexism, and other discriminatory practices.
We have compiled a list of resources for professionals working with youth to continue to build competencies in addressing inequity and building safe, welcoming environments where young people can feel supported and be free from fear. We hope these resources can provide some tools to assist you in your work. Please contact us if there are any additional ways we can support you and your youth.
