That three siblings attend the same Boys & Girls Club of Bellevue after school program isn’t itself remarkable. This is a common occurrence for families, after all. In this case, however, it’s a testament to the well-oiled services provided by the members of the Bellevue Collaborative—the children are experiencing homelessness, and are attending different schools.
It’s no new news that the gentrification of Seattle is having very real effects on South King County communities, specifically lower income and communities of color. Moving to the third most gentrified city in the US many communities and organizations are working together to create spaces of safety, belonging, community, and empowerment for our young people.
In the New Year, School’s Out Washington welcomed Sabel as our Customer and Data Systems Administrator. In this role, Sabel serves the dual function of providing day-to-day customer and systems support for the Elevate Washington website and general Salesforce administration. Let’s get to know a little bit about Sabel!
This state legislative session is shaping up to be a lively one. SOWA will be working to secure funding for the Expanded Learning Opportunities (ELO) Quality Initiative once again and we are working with partners to educate legislators about the youth development field (including mentoring and case management) as well as the impact ELOs play in career exploration and awareness.
