Understanding DEL’s MERIT System

by School's Out Washington | | Posted under Afterschool and Summer News, Policy & Legislation

The start of a new school year is always a good time for licensed school-age professionals to check on the Department of Early Learning website to keep abreast of the many changes happening in the child care arena. Professionals should first explore and register with the Managed Education and Registry Information Tool (MERIT).

One Hun Dred!!!

Are you ready for MERIT?!!

This new tool highlights the Core Competencies and shows where folks fall on the career lattice based on verified training and education. It also helps you to better track your own professional development opportunities each year and plan a course of action. This new system will also allow us to identify new trends and needs within the afterschool field. A good overview can be found here.

School-age providers can use their previous STARS ID and update your records.   Some of the contents from the STARS database were transferred into MERIT in January of 2011. More great news – STARS scholarships are still available through the Washington Association for the Education of Young Children.

Take a look at this exciting new system and have a great school year.
