Prevent the Elimination of 21st Century CLC's

President Trump has released his proposed FY 2018 Budget, which includes the elimination of 21st Century Community Learning Centers, the only federal funding stream for afterschool and summer programming.

21st Century Community Learning Centers make sure that children and youth in high-poverty schools are engaged throughout the day and year, and are a crucial support for working parents. The success of these programs in closing the opportunity gap is backed by research. They not only support children afterschool and in the summer, but lead to real academic gains that can help close the opportunity gap.

Washington’s children, youth, and families need your support. We're asking Congress to maintain the program and funding level for this program, protecting it from cuts or elimination.

Ensure $4m for Expanded Learning Opportunities Initiative

Research shows that high-quality expanded learning programs improve attendance and grades while building the social-emotional skills needed to succeed in school and in life. Yet too few youth in Washington have access to the high-quality expanded learning programs—after school and in the summer.

A $4M state investment in the existing Expanded Learning Opportunities Initiative will leverage private sector investments to allow it to expand from reaching 50 programs and approximately 2,000 youth to 260 programs and 10,000 in six counties.
