Job Listing: Director of Finance and Administration
School’s Out Washington (SOWA) is an independent 501c3 organization serving the field of afterschool and youth development (AYD) throughout Washington State. School’s Out Washington is dedicated to building community systems to support quality afterschool, youth development and summer programs for Washington’s children and youth ages 5 to young adulthood.
SOWA’s Director of Finance and Administration has primary responsibility for the organization’s financial operations, IT and HR teams. The Director is a leadership position and part of the SOWA executive team and is expected to participate in the leadership strategy team and the daily management of the financial and operations services. In this capacity and in collaboration with the leadership team, the Director plays a key role in monitoring and reporting on SOWA’s programs, developing fiscal policy and administering employment and human resources policies.

Financial Operations and Strategy (60%)
- Manage all SOWA’s finance and accounting operations, including accounting transactions, banking, financial analysis, reporting and planning, budgetary control, and payroll.
- Lead the development of short- and long-term financial plans, including budgets, cash flow projections, financial reports, background for fundraising and capital acquisition plans.
- Advise the CEO and other key members of SOWA’s leadership team on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, investment priorities, and policy matters.
- Serve as the management liaison to the board and audit committee; effectively communicate and present critical financial matters at select board of directors and committee meetings. Provide appropriate budget and program performance reports and analysis.
- Manage the annual financial audit as the primary liaison with the independent auditors, providing all information and reports requested by our independent auditors for completion of the annual audit report on a timely basis. Ensure completion of all fiscal aspects of the annual Federal Form 990.
Team Development/Leadership (25%)
- Oversee, direct, and organize the work of the internal staff teams supporting finance and HR, and our external outsourced partnership for IT support services.
- Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
- Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach; Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, and administer salary adjustments.
Operations and Technology Systems (15%)
- Oversee and negotiate the contracts with key vendor partnerships including for office space and technology systems. Ensure SOWA’s vendor partners provide high quality services and support to the organization.
- Oversee and lead operations staff and technology committee to evaluate current technology and systems that support SOWA and build strategic roadmap for infrastructure, systems and tools that streamline operations and allow the organization to scale.
- Provide analytical support to SOWAs internal management team including development of internal management reporting capabilities.
- Identify opportunities to streamline purchasing for services and products; create purchasing partnerships that benefit the overall financial health of SOWA.
- Address racism, sexism, heterosexism and other discriminatory practices;
- Work toward racial equity through undoing institutional and structural racism;
- Participate in related project meetings and weekly staff meetings;
- Serve as an ambassador for the organization at all times both formally and informally;
- Respond to requests for information and resources and make referrals to outside resources;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- 10+ years of related work experience, with a strong preference for work in the nonprofit sector
- A BA degree in business or related field required, MBA preferred. Equivalent experience may be substituted for education
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP) and experience with audit requirements and procedures for non-profits. Preference for experience with A-133 audits
- CPA preferred (not required)
- Proficiency using applicable accounting software (QuickBooks currently) as well as MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, train and develop staff
- Commitment to working with diverse individuals, groups, communities and organizations
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks
- Ability to adjust course of direction based on evaluation data or emerging project themes
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Ability to work collaboratively across staff teams, providing strong customer service and helping create a great employee experience
- A strong understanding of structural and systemic oppression, and readiness to learn and engage in challenging conversations around racism with colleagues

Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time exempt position reporting to the CEO. The hiring salary range is $95,000 to $105,000, depending on experience. SOWA offers a generous benefits plan including ample paid time off, medical, dental and vision insurance, and a 403b retirement savings plan matched by the organization after their second year of employment.
