Protect 21st Century Community Learning Centers From Cuts
As the new congress begins their work in Washington D.C, SOWA is carefully monitoring the 21st Century Community Learning Centers budget allocation. Even a 10% cut to this program could result in a loss of high-quality afterschool programming for 1500 youth in our state, equivalent to an entire small town losing access to afterschool and summer programming for its children.
21st Century Community Learning Centers make sure that children and youth in high-poverty schools are engaged throughout the day and year, and are a crucial support for working parents. The success of these programs in closing the opportunity gap are research backed and not only support children afterschool and in the summer, but lead to real academic gains and can help close the opportunity gap.
Washington’s children, youth, and families need your support. We're asking Congress to maintain the 2016 funding level for this program, protecting it from cuts. Please let your elected officials in the nation’s capital know how important maintaining current funding for this program is!
