An Introspective Approach to Teamwork, Responsibility & Leadership

Join us in one of the new Social and Emotional Learning Youth Work Methods from the David P. Weikart Center for Youth Program Quality. We know that all learning is both social and emotional. We also know that social and emotional learning happens across the lifespan, and that the better we know ourselves as adults socially and emotionally and understand differences in others, the better we can support our youth in further developing these critical life skills. What are the foundations in knowledge and self-awareness that we as staff need to cultivate as we prepare to facilitate effective social learning with the youth we work with?

In this workshop we will delve into concepts of social identity in our roles as youth workers, and explore how these identities and cultures can help us understand and reflect on our own strengths, styles, and learning areas when it comes to communication, leadership, collaboration, and group dynamics. Reflect about yourself, learn about your colleagues and leave with a better foundation and shared knowledge of group dynamics and teamwork so you can better facilitate meaningful and culturally responsive experiences with the youth you work with.
