Beyond Behavior: Moving from Behavior Management to Child Engagement (Seattle, Oct. 24)
STARS Credits: 2
This workshop focuses on increasing equity in expanded learning opportunities by shifting our views on traditional behavior management. For every child to access all that expanded learning opportunities has to offer, every adult they encounter during their journey must learn to identify and overcome their own learned implicit biases. In this workshop, we will identify our social system’s core identity categories that create implicit biases and are often reinforced by our institutions. Participants will gain a base level of understanding to explore areas of implicit bias when working with diverse groups, discover the sources of their beliefs about “good and bad” behavior, and develop strategies to better engage the whole child.
• Explore areas of implicit bias when working with diverse groups
• Discover the sources of our beliefs around “good and bad” behavior
• Develop strategies to engage the whole child in a group setting
