Session 1: On-Boarding and Training Program Essentials

In Session One, On-Boarding and Training Program Essentials, learn how hiring can serve as a screening tool, how to welcome and on-board new and returning staff effectively, and what preparation is necessary so your training program is ready to go the day staff arrive! This session will examine staff recruitment, orientation, and training as integral to and an extension of organizational culture and successful programming.

Session 2: Staff Retention

Non-profit jobs, and especially child/youth work, can create a revolving door of front line staff. Staff development is critical to staff retention at all levels of an organization. In Session Two, Staff Retention, learn how to create a culture of formal and informal staff development, staff recognition and evaluation to create and maintain quality staff. The session will include managing transitions and how all of these elements affect the staff and the management work experience.

Session 3: The Participatory Approach to Management

Many of us are familiar with the active participatory approach to learning for youth, but have you considered how this approach applies to your management of staff? Non-profit jobs, especially child/youth work, can create a revolving door of front line employees. Development, active management, and consistent coaching can assist your program in building and maintaining quality staff.

Session 4: Risk Management

Out of school time programs are often faced with unique challenges. How do youth development professionals keep day to day programming on track when emergencies occur for staff or youth? In Session 4, Risk Management, we'll share best practices for prevention and management of critical situations.
